Karate School Aims To Break Over 400 Wooden Boards For St. Jude This Sunday

Lawrence World Class Karate Unites To Raise Funds For Sick Children

FAYETTEVILLE, NY. – October 11, 2023 – Over 30 brave karate students, including some black belts, are aiming to beat their previous record by breaking over 400 one-inch thick hardened pinewood boards with their fists, feet, and other parts of their body, at the Lawrence World Class Karate dojo to raise funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (St. Jude).

The break-a-thon event will be held at 2pm on Sunday, October 15th, 2023, at the dojo located at 6907 East Genesee Street, Fayetteville, NY, 13066. All are welcome and for more information please call: 315-446-2311.

Businesses and members of the public are invited to attend the break-a-thon and to not only sponsor a karate student to break the pinewood boards for a donation of $10 per board, but to also help the dojo reach its target of breaking over 400 boards. In 2019, when the dojo last held this event, 400 boards were broken. This is the 16th time Lawrence World Class Karate dojo has hosted this event and it was put on hold for over four years due to Covid-19. Lawrence World Class Karate dojo has been fund raising for St. Jude for over 10 years.

“Helping sick children and the less fortunate is one of our core values,” says Hanshi Rande Lawrence. “This fundraising event on behalf of St. Jude is our way of ensuring that sick children can get the lifesaving help that they need and deserve. We invite business owners and members of the public to come to the dojo and support us.”

Hanshi Lawrence will be assisted by Shihan Andy Boucounis, Renshi Nancy Finch, and Renshi Gary Guidera whom are also directors of the break-a-thon.

Sponsoring the breaking of a board helps to ensure that St. Jude families never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing, or food and that they receive the comfort and support that they needed during challenging times.

Lawrence World Class Karate dojo is the only karate school in Central New York specializing in traditional Japanese Shotokan and Okinawan Goju-ryu Karate Systems.
